Not everyone can be a part of the Veterans Court Program. Interested individuals must have served in the United States Armed Forces in some capacity. Applicants’ criminal history will be closely reviewed by the District Attorney and the Baldwin County Veterans Court team. If the applicant is approved by the District Attorney and the team, he or she will then be scheduled for a substance abuse and mental health evaluation. The purpose of this assessment is to determine whether or not the participant has a drug and/or alcohol dependency or has any mental health issues. If the results of the evaluations are appropriate, the applicant will then be eligible for the Veterans Court and allowed to enter a plea.
